A Note On The Personal Themes Of My Work
A lot of my work may seem very unserious, and perhaps they are, but much of how I depict myself and the world around me comes from my deeply serious upbringing. I'm white on my father's side and mi'kmaw on my mother's side. the catholic church became parasitic on my family history and my personal past, as both an indigenous person and a queer person, I was deeply hurt by the church, and now felt myself having to rebel from its influence, much like a demon.

For me, the horns are a sign of personal rebellion from the status quo. and from there my imagination grew on how i could begin to depict my grief in ways i could unpack them. archtypal pill capsules to swallow my nerves.Thats where the Triad comes in
The Triad represented the classic structure of the human psyche proposed by Sigmund "Rolling In His Grave Every Time You Call Your Boyfriend Daddy" Freud, and while I dont actually believe in his theory, its an incredibly powerful storytelling metaphor. By using this structure I could begin to abstract my trauma and mental illness into my personal works.
Superego and ID.ID, a rounded, cartoonish figure with the body type of my own who is symbolic of myself in many ways. ID is visually coded much like a human woman, but her horns signify she is a ram. I myself am intersex, and find this to be the most comfortable way of expressing the way in which my sex correlates to my gender. ID is my worst impulses and my deepest devotions. ID also represents my experience as a survivor of childhood abuse, in where I felt like a frail sacrificial lamb while young, and in adulthood I am a ram who remembers the rituals.Superego is a haunting figure, pale, eyes obscured by large red circle shades. she represents the ways in how I dress to attempt to fit in as a woman, a souless smile and never seemingly in scale of the rest of the crowd. Superego is logical, superego is moral, superego is the overseer. (see what im getting at?), superego represented both my wit, tact, talent, but also parrots the cruel "logic" of my former abusers. so often the superego can become loud. overbearing.
Then there is the seperation of Ego and I. Little to none. Its meant to be representative of me as an artist, really. Ego is a visually fluid concept meant to model psyche looking back upon itself. A persona, if you would.

Digital Illustration Process
Digital illustrations begin with a loose and rough sketch, working more on gathering together the idea into a structure of which to build off of, sketches arent perfect and I try not to get too attached, discarding, major edits and constant tweaking is a major factor of the sketching stage in my work
Lining is the process in where i can clean up and add the finer details of the piece, I can also use line weight to help balance out the work and make my line work and perspective feel more dynamic
Here I can begin to add in colors, subtle details and designs and then to finish it all up I polish off this baby with lightings, shadows, some painting and fun background details! and thats why I call it a "Full Render" :)
Animation
My animation is not professional by any means, but is a process I am capable of (lol) -Every animation starts with a concept! a script, a written down idea. Then you begin the process of storyboards and research. See in the boards below i took in some references on flour sack weights and walk cycles to help me can an idea for how this flour sack might walk across the diving board.

Final Animation
This is the end product of that simple storyboard before it! This was one of my first complete scenes of animation, but lets look below to see how it breaks down into more managable parts!
Walk Study
Walk studies are an incredible way to get into the groove of animation and applying all the major fundementals of animation. the body is a complex machine that puts in a surprising amount of movement just to take a single step! Look where the head bobs almost like a wave, over and under and over again, this is matched with the foot steps, where the heel connects, where the body sways, all of these become somewhat mathmatical once you begin studying it enough, timing notes and foot placement charts as seen above.
Rough Keys
Once I had an idea of where to begin with walk cycles, I began to construct a better walk cycle matching my model's proportions and stride. I've cleaned up the lines and simplified the body into a skeleton for filling with details and frames
Final Walk Animation
The finished piece looks like a world of difference from where we first started ! isnt that neat?
